After researching online, I went to a local Electronics store to test different size speakers. All of the smaller ones did not have a full sound, especially turned up loud. The only speakers that sounded good had 6.5" speakers and dual tweeters. They were also $300 to $400 each. I found these on the Yamaha Website and Amazon had the best price. Though not the same brand in store I bought them based on the speaker sizes. They are installed and blasting. I am 100% satisfied with these speakers and recommend them for exterior patio use.
Nice Boat Speakers January 13, 2008 Carl (So.Cal.) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchaced these speakers for my cabin cruser. The features I liked were the large woofer and the 6 ohm rating that allowed them to be used with the marine stereo, I'm satisfied with my purchace.
I listened to them at a local dealer who wanted $80 more for them and only had the display units in stock.
The speaker boxes were large but I had already picked a good place to mount them.
The sound is very nice, more base than I expected, the first speakers I've owned that I had to adjust the base tone down a little. They are a little lacking in the mid range and the dual tweaters are a little shrill. The EQ on the stereo and adjusting the placement helped.
The 200 watt marine stereo has enough power to make them sound good but a good amplifer would be needed if you like loud music. I'm looking at the Yamaha aw350 to replace the speakers in the helm area.
Expected more. September 1, 2007 Davido (Ohio) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought these to replace my tiny, 5 year old, cheapo - $25 Zenith speakers that I bought at Odd Lots, which actually still worked and sounded pretty good. I searched and searched for "outdoor speakers'. Must have read a million reviews. Finally I settled on the Yamahas because of the name.
The Yamahas are twice the size, 6 times the cost, but unfortunately only marginally better. With a 6 ½" woofer I expected much more base and the duo tweeters sound tinny.
They only come in white (I really wanted black) and the instructions have a section on "how to paint your speakers". Seems weird.
I gave them a 3, but perhaps a 3.5 is more accurate.
